TASK 1: VIDEO SUMMARY
SUMMARY OF IDENTIFYING SPEECH PURPOSE AND DEVELOP CENTRAL IDEA
Based on the video that I watched from COMMpadres Media Channel about speech purpose and central idea in Youtube, there are three types of process that we need to follow under purpose and central idea which is general purpose statement, specific purpose statement and central idea statement.
Firstly, general purpose statement are the thing that we deciding on the basic idea for our speech. It also simply articulated goal of our speech in the broadest possible terms where it always starts with the word ‘to’ and then follow with the overall goal of the speech. In that video stated that there are dozens of different general purpose statement used in public speaking such as to inspire, to entertain, to celebrate and to mourn. However, the most common in general purpose statement are to inform, to persuade and to commemorate or mark a special occasion. After that, the second process is specific purpose statement. This process can do after we have identified the general purpose of our speech. It would be equivalents of identifying a more specific of our speech. Specific Purpose Statement starts with the general purpose and then proceed with provides further detail about the goal of the speech. The basic formula for the specific purpose statement is to restate the general purpose, identify the specific audience for the speech and then detail about the goal that we want the audience to learn from the speech that we gave.
Other than that, central idea statement is the last process that we can develop in our speech after we are sure that general purpose statement and specific purpose statement already in our hand. It also known as a thesis statement. This statement is like determining the major stops in the speech where we need to sum up the whole speech so that we can achieve our main intention. However, the central idea statement should be a full and proper sentence where it would be expressed in a single sentence and be a declarative statement.
In summary, the video discusses about the process of developing a general purpose statement, specific purpose statement and central idea statement for the speech very clearly.
