‘Racism Sparks Extremism’ Programme Speech
None of us alone can save the nation or the world. But each of us make a positive difference if we commit ourselves to do so
- Cornel West
Greetings everyone
It is my pleasure to become be a part of the programme in giving a speech for the ‘Racism Sparks Extremism’. When I first receive the proposal, I thought the issue of racism has become better since we are going through a hardship of pandemic, but sadly when I further my research of racism, the truth is unacceptable. The unique of Malaysia is having citizen with different kind of races, ethnic and religions to live together in a country, but these has become a sensitive issue for Malaysian. Research shows that orang asli as a bumiputera does not always have their benefits with their bumiputera status, 7% with approximate 2 million of Malaysian Indians were discriminated and minority of Indonesian and Bangladesh immigrant were a victim of abused and being treated like lesser human. These issues could potentially spark extremism which means that the advocacy of extreme measures of views.
I would like everyone to understand what racism really are. People often does not realize some of their attitude and behavior are being racist. In a general knowledge, racist is a human being discriminate someone by their races. There were 3 types of racism which are direct racism, systematic racism, and indirect racism. Direct racism is what we usually saw among us which is you intentionally discriminate a person such as writing a negative comment of a particular religion or ethnic; Systematic racism is discrimination that occurs in an organization such as the government, police, hospital, school, and media companies; Indirect racism is usually happens in a casual way that was unintentionally or intentionally discriminate a person in a casual way such as making a racial joke by laughing and joking at someone skin tone or race, calling Indian as ‘kaling’, or saying Sarawakian and Sabahan living in a tree.

Racism might bring to several effect for Malaysian citizen and also immigrant. As we know from the history, 13 May 1969 is the biggest racial tragic that happened in Malaysia among Chinese and Malay due to imbalance and unfairness of economy caused killing and conflicts of one and another. Racism could be the cause of Malaysia fail in achieving unity since people are being selfish in protecting their races and ethic by doing negative things like spreading rumors or fake new of one another until they forgot how to unite and help each other to achieve same goals for the country. The racism issues could cause extremism which means that rejecting the universal human rights, pluralism, and diversity.
In the nutshell, racism is a serious issue that ever happened in our history but still happening among us even in 21st century. We are here let you aware the seriousness of racism issue in Malaysia. I believed that everyone has the equal right no matter what gender, races, religion, ethnic, or where you come from. You and I deserve the same respect as a human being. Racism should stop before it is getting more serious until it effects our new generation. Let spread love and respect with each other because we are Malaysian. Let us unite to live in a peaceful and harmony country.
Thank You.
