CLASS REFLECTIONS
16th of OCTOBER 2021
1030am-1230pm
IT'S THE FIRST PUBLIC SPEAKING CLASS FOR GROUP E FOR THIS SEMESTER. THE BIRTH OF A NEW SEMESTER (A211) INDICATES THE NEW CHAPTER OF MY PUBLIC SPEAKING JOURNEY IN UUM.
AS USUAL, OUR FIRST LESSON OF THE SEMESTER STARTED OFF BY SCANNING OUR ATTENDANCE. AND THEN WE PROCEEDED TO OUR CLASS WITH A QUICK CATCH UP SESSION.
OUR FIRST TASK FOR TODAY WAS TO ELECT THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR THIS SEMESTER. DESPITE THE NOMINATION AND VOTING PROCESS THAT WAS CONDUCTED IN CLASS, THE VOTING PROCESS WAS NOT QUITE SUCCESSFUL DUE TO SOME INCONVENIENCE CAUSED.
HOWEVER, ONCE THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED, A RE-ELECTION WAS CONDUCTED TO ENSURE A FAIR VOTING PROCESS. THOUGH IT WAS OUR FIRST CLASS OF THE SEMESTER, WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE LACK OF COMMUNICATION AMONG THE STUDENTS OF GROUP E. THIS EVENT THAT OCCURRED IN OUR CLASS TODAY HAS TAUGHT ME THAT COMMUNICATION IS NOT ALWAYS THE KEY, BUT HOW WE COMPREHEND IT ALSO MATTERS IN ORDER TO PREVENT MISCOMMUNICATION.
WE ALL LEARN FROM MISTAKES. AND I’M POSITIVE THAT A PERSON WITH THE RIGHT MINDSET AND ATTITUDE THAT STRIVES TO MAKE THEMSELVES BETTER BY LEARNING FROM THEIR MISTAKE WILL REACH GREATER HEIGHTS. THEREFORE, I'M MOST DEFINITELY LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR FUTURE CLASSES AS I DON’T ONLY LEARN PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS, BUT I'M ALSO GIVEN THE EXPOSURE TO MANAGEMENT AND ETHICAL SKILLS.
ALTHOUGH THE ELECTION PROCESS HAD LEFT QUITE AN IMPACT ON US, WE KEPT OUR LEARNING SPIRIT HIGH AND PROCEEDED WITH OUR TASKS FOR TODAY.
FIRSTLY, WE WERE GIVEN A BRIEF EXPLANATION ON THE ALLOCATION OF MARKS (IN THE FORM OF PERCENTAGE) FOR OUR COURSE MODULE/SYLLABUS. THEN, WE WERE ASSIGNED TO WATCH A VIDEO AND MAKE A SUMMARY OF OUR UNDERSTANDING BASED ON THE VIDEO.
BESIDES THAT, WE WERE ALSO ASSIGNED TO CREATE A PARTITION OF OUR EXISTING WEEBLY WEBSITE FOR THE NEW SEMESTER, WHILE PERTAINING THE PREVIOUS DATA, TASKS AND ASSIGNMENTS SUBMITTED VIA WEEBLY. IT WAS GREAT TO WORK BACK WITH MY TEAM MEMBERS . IT WAS GREAT TO CATCH UP AND DIVIDE OUR TASKS EQUALLY IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE OUR LEARNING OUTCOME OF THE DAY.
I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO MORE CLASSES IN THE FUTURE AND I AM EXCITED TO FIND OUT WHAT THIS SEMESTERS HAS GOT STORED FOR US 😊

23rd of OCTOBER 2021
1030am-1230pm
As usual, class today started with attendance taking and then we proceeded to recap on the things we have learnt from our first class.
Later on, few volunteers including myself were given the opportunity to share with the class on the summary for the individual task (video summary) on the input we have gained. It's was great to hear their sharing on the various topics as we got to learn different aspects of the given task. I was privileged to share my inputs on Organization of Speech.
Soon after that, we entered to our topic for today which was Protocol and Event Management. The topic may sound basic, but I have learnt the importance of knowing and understanding the procedure and the code of conduct of an event.
For example, through this class, I have learnt that the idea of addressing or referring to a person may sound easy, however, if we don't know their background beforehand, the salutation we use may not be appropriate (in some cases offensive) to the person.
Therefore, the lesson from today's class had given me a lot of input in the sense of what to look out for before, during and after organising an event. I believe having the knowledge of protocol and event management skills are fundamental for everyone who wishes to conduct an event (regardless of the size of the event) as it can be seen as a parameter to a successful planning.
Last but not least, before the class was concluded, all of us were assigned 2 group activities to complete (book summary and an activity related to protocol and event management) in order to enhance better understanding of the topic we learnt.

1030am-1230pm
Asynchronous class.
Although today started off just like usual with us scanning our attendance and a quick recap of what we learnt from the previous class, but the class today is rather different since it is conducted in the asynchronous form in which an assigned tasks was given to all students to complete our progress till 1230pm for the day. We were given the time to watch videos and read PowerPoint slides in order to brain storm ideas for a speech that we will soon have to construct for our individual assignment. Our lecturer/supervisor had given us the time to digest our understandings and slowly prepare a draft on the speech that we will be constructing in the near future.
Therefore, today's task for all is to come up with a draft on audience analysis for the speech that we will be soon recording for our individual assignment for this semester. I am quite excited for this task as the individual speech duration is set for 15minutes. This will be a new experience for me to prepare and record a speech for 15 minutes. Moreover, I believe the topic (Beauty Standards) that I have chosen will be interesting to discuss and not bore the audience when the speech is delivered.

After scanning our attendance, we were greeted by our lecturer with a warm Deepavali wish. Right after that, we hoped on to our agenda today, which was the introductory to our group assignment. 10.30am-12.30pm
In today's lesson, we have learnt how to organise our speech. As we all know, introduction, body and conclusion are the main elements in a speech. After identifying these basic elements, we then were exposed to the organisation/arrangement of speech. By the end of the lesson, I have clearly understood that having set a flow speech is crucial as it determines the impact of our speech to the audience.
The 6 types of speech organisation we learnt today comprises of
1) chronological : A chronologically organisation speech pattern arranges its key points according to a time frame, demonstration or even in the form of process that indicates its step from the first to the end.
2) topical : organises data according to multiple sub-topics inside a bigger topic and usually not arranged in chronological or historical pattern
3) spatial : A spatial pattern of organization arranges information in directional pattern. The spatial style is fitting since the differences in architecture and uses of space are related to particular geographic areas, making location a central organizing factor
4) Comparative : used in comparing two or more issues in addressing a topic
5)Problem-Solution : a speech that starts with a problem and ends with a solution
6) Causal : causal speech informs audience members about causes and effects that have already happened
Once we managed to grasp the idea of today's lesson, we did a in-class-task to enhance our understandings better on the topic. Since I have started to work on my speech, the techniques we learnt today did given me a bit more clarity on the flow of my topic. The lesson today definitely helped me to polish my speech draft and with the remaining of the time, we were given the opportunity to brush up on our progress on our speech preparation.

ONCE PROGRAMME - SENI: KASIH
KERAMAT SEJATI
20th of November 2021
10.00am-12.00pm
Unlike every Public Speaking Class, today all students involved in KOK-K activities were encouraged to take part in the ONCE Programme organised by Pusat Kok-K UUM. The theme of the programme was centralised to show appreciation towards parents. Throughout the whole event, various videos in the form of drama, poetry and live performances by Dr Zaki and his band was telecasted.
Before the event commenced, there was a minor technical issue that caused a delay in proceeding with the event. However, I have Pusat Kok-K was very efficient in addressing the issue to its audience and students in order to reduce the panic rate among the people involved. Being a student of Public Speaking, I have learnt that when handling and organising events, various obstacles may arise. Therefore, we should always stay calm in situations like that and have a plan B in stored in case there were to be an emergency. Despite learning protocols and event management techniques, this event has proved to me that one should not give up on hope although several unexpected challenges may occur when organising an event.
Apart from that, this event was really mind-opening and sentimental since it mainly concerns about parents and their contributions as well as their role in a children's life. I have learnt that we shall never take anyone for granted and we should always value our parents' sacrificial and effort in raising us.
