Saving is a must for a better future
Assalamualaikum and a very good morning I bid to members of the floor. My name is Nurul Natasha Afiqah Bt Mohamad Zamri. Today I am going to talk to you about why saving is a must for a better future.
Have you ever wondered what it feels like to have your dream house, car and proper education for yourself and your future family? It must feel good to achieve certain things in your life, especially if you come from a poor socioeconomic background. For ordinary people, they call it a dream, but someone who believes in themselves calls it a goal in their life. Why must you have a goal in your life? Is it for you to impress other people? Or to become the greatest of all time?. Neither one was the right answer. For me, I believe we must have goals in our life in order to find a purpose in living. If you set something for you to achieve, you will definitely put everything in yourself to achieve that thing. Being poor is not an excuse for you not to have goals in your life. Have you ever heard the beautiful quotation of, “you were never wrong if you were born in poor, but it is you to be blamed if you die poor”. Therefore, everyone on this floor is welcome to have your own goals from now on. Bear in mind that goals without hard work and dedication are nothing but a waste. So, what is the best possible way to achieve your goals in life? The best answer is through saving, which correlates with today’s topic; saving is a must for a better future.
First and foremost, what is the importance of saving money? Saving money is very useful during unexpected events, especially during this endemic covid-19. As we can see, many businesses are closed due to the financial situation during this period. Regardless a corporate or a small business, everyone in this industry is affected evenly. Do you ever wonder how many employees are becoming jobless, which leads to more severe problems in their lives. Some people who have many commitments become even frustrated because they are unable to survive in this situation. Have you ever seen a house being auctioned because they cannot afford to pay monthly to the bank? Yes, these things happened during this endemic phase of covid-19. Therefore, the suitable solution to overcome many problems is to save your money. It is up to you the methods to use in order to save money.
Secondly, what is the methodology you may adopt to save money? Most preferably, allocate some of your money to a separate bank account. For a student who is doing a small business, you may allocate your allowance and for someone who already has a permanent job, the allocation of the monthly salaries would be helpful. The amount is not a problem if you stay consistent in allocating it monthly. It may be RM 100 to 200 per month, but if you manage to do it consistently, the amount will grow even more significant as a result. In other circumstances, the saving money also will benefit you to help if you want to buy your first house. It may act as a deposit for you to pay to purchase the house. We can make a small conclusion that saving will help for a better future.
Other than that, you must separate wants from needs. Let us go through the definition first. A need is something necessary to live and function, while wants are something that can improve your life. According to these criteria, it includes food, clothing, shelter, and medical care, whereas a want includes everything else. These terminologies, however, are more fluid than they appear at first look, and certain products may appear to fit into both categories. Allowing some time to pass before gratifying your desire for the thing is a useful strategy for differentiating desires from needs. The want for a need grows stronger with time, but the desire for a want weakens over time. Other than that, the example that we can use in our daily life is a mobile phone. I believe everyone here on this floor has at least one mobile phone for their daily life usage. Let us question the benefits of having a mobile phone. Are they really useful in our life? Can we live and perform our daily lives smoothly without having a mobile phone?. The right answer is subjective, and I am more onto say that a mobile phone is a must in this 21st century. This is because it is something necessary for you to live and function properly, especially for students to communicate with their counterparts and lecturers regarding their studies. Moreover, another example would be a business person communicating with subordinates on performing a specific task. Here, it can be inferred that a mobile phone is a need in this modern era. Nevertheless, a mobile phone also can be ‘wants’. For instance, several people would like to change their mobile phone frequently by purchasing a brand new phone during the launching of the product. You should ask yourself, is it worth spending on something you do not even need or just for you to be up to date person?. Therefore, you need the self-discipline to differentiate wants and needs to achieve a better future.
Last but not least, what are the benefits of saving money in your life? Other than what has been said earlier, a saving also will help in terms of the continuation of education. We will not have any problem during our primary and secondary school since most of the cost is subsidized by the government, and this usually happens in public schools but not in private. The best thing is that the materials are provided to the students, such as textbooks. Nevertheless, the problem only can be seen when they continue to study in a tertiary education where the usage of money will be very costly. In regards to the public or private universities, we usually use an enormous amount of money to further our studies. For instance, even if someone is enrolled in public universities, they also need to pay the tuition fees that almost cost us hundreds or even thousands per semester. Apart from that, the materials such as a reference book also are pricey, especially for someone who enrolled in a professional course such as the school of law and medical students. Therefore, saving from the beginning will ease the burden and help you to overcome this problem.
In conclusion, by saving money, you can achieve anything in your life. It may be your goal to have a dream house or to be in a profession that you prefer, but everything starts when you have the self-discipline to save your money.“You do not have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step”. – Martin Luther King, Jr
Thats all from me, Thankyou.
