Hi and Assalammualaikum to everyone, first of all, I want to thank everyone for being willing to spend time with me.
In recent years, there has been a lot of focus on mental health, among them emotional problems. Emotional problems are emotional disorders that occur to individuals that interfere with activities of daily living. Emotional problems are identified as a major issue in the mental health of the people at this time, especially since the country implemented the Movement Control Order (MCO). Furthermore, the current state of society requires them to always be prepared in the face of any coming problems. Without the right steps in dealing with the problems encountered can lead to emotional problems. Emotional problems are often associated with mental problems, depression (depressive), and also emotional disorders. This problem is also known as emotional stress. Usually, women are more likely to experience emotional problems than men. Yet this does not mean that men do not have emotional problems. It is often associated with women because women prefer to express it rather than keeping it to themselves. It's different with men. Men often hide their emotional problems instead of expressing them because they are afraid that they will be said to be weak. Mental health problems and mental disorders are on the rise in our presently developed country, and the rate of increase is increasing from year to year. It was discovered that poor mental health was to blame for the considerable increase in suicide rates and mental disease over the last decade. As a result, Malaysians must be aware of the need for mental disease awareness, keep a decent level of mental health, and recognize the symptoms of mental health problems that require intervention and treatment. Therefore, the various factors and ways of overcoming the problem of mental stress that colour the focus of the discussion will be elaborated on in detail.
The first factor that causes a person to deal with mental stress is the problem of a perfect personality. The desire for self-improvement is beneficial to people if not excessive. Excessive desire will also bring stress that makes it difficult for him. Someone who is too focused on perfection will never feel satisfied and always want to succeed in all aspects involved. These people often have mountainous desires or ambitions. They get frustrated when the results don’t follow the standard of perfection based on the glasses. Therefore, a perfect personality problem will cause heavy mental stress.
Life problems in terms of family, work, or education will lead to the existence of mental stress. Family problems and poverty cause the human soul to be constantly frustrated and depressed. They feel pressured because it is difficult to earn a living for the family. Heavy and complicated work causes stress to maintain performance in the workplace. The stress of education, on the other hand, occurs because of striving for excellence. Stress among students usually stems from parents who want their children to succeed in their studies or teachers who want to ensure that their learning and teaching (T&L) objectives are achieved. So, life problems result in mental stress that tends to drive psychological illness.
In addition, horrific past experiences are also one of the factors to mental stress. This condition usually exists in victims of horrific or frightening tragedies. As a result of the tragedy, victims are often haunted by mixed feelings. If the victim is someone who is silent and does not like to express feelings, then he or she will suffer from depression in the long run. They will feel phobic, fearful and may act hastily without the ability to think rationally. Excessive experiences such as being raped or bullied may cause a person to lose sanity due to being overly stressed. Thus, a devastating experience may connect to mental urges.
What about the symptoms and signs of someone having an emotional problem?
Symptoms and signs of impaired mental health can arise as a result of physical, social, and environmental stress. It happens when a person has trouble adjusting to or dealing with stress. It can harm one's physical health and become out of control. This will affect a person's physical and emotional health. A person can be said to face emotional problems when experiencing the symptoms that will be mentioned. The first symptom is a change of mood. This feeling begins with a prolonged sense of sadness as well as a tendency to blame oneself or others.
The next symptom is a disturbance of cognitive function. This is because the patient will easily feel hopeless, have excessive guilt, have thought of suicide, and even lose pleasure, focus, and interest in something.
These symptoms can also be detected through biological signs. Among the symptoms are loss of appetite and weight. Patients also experience sleep disturbances, begin to lose sexual desire, menstrual cycle disorders, fatigue, constant headaches, and body aches, digestive problems, including constipation and diarrhea, and even insomnia.
Nevertheless, the problem of mental stress can be overcome through the practice of a healthy lifestyle. The practice of a harmonious life can reduce the anger and stress of life. The experience of tolerance, patience, and cheerfulness in daily interactions can avoid quarrels. Regular time management and division of labor can reduce workload. Individuals can exercise and recreate to release mental stress. In terms of daily nutritional care, we need to avoid fatty and starchy foods by increasing the intake of vegetables and fruits. So, healthy lifestyle practices are effective in avoiding severe mental stress problems.
In addition, Steps to cope with mental stress can be done with counselling guidance and psychotherapy services. Psychotherapy services are a type of treatment of mental disorders through psychological methods. Counselling can help troubled individuals to reduce the conflicts of their lives. Counselling and psychotherapy services are designed to give victims of mental stress a safe place to vent their thoughts. After hearing the issue, the counsellor offers guidance to assist the individual in resolving the issue. Counseling is often provided to mentally sick families in order to alleviate the stress of those who must care for sufferers. As a result, it is apparent that counselling and psychotherapy services are critical stages in preventing mental stress.
Next, religious or moral education is also able to overcome the problem of mental stress. Religion is seen as an essential element for cultivating the noble characteristics of humanity. Parents should give religious education to their children from an early age because "children are like white cloth, parents who design it". Individuals who have a foundation of pure values can control their passions. Moral and religious education can overcome the problem of an empty soul and provide awareness against excessive lust. With that awareness, one will always be grateful for God’s grace. Religious or moral education can reduce mental stress through desire control.
In conclusion, there are various efforts we can make to cope with stress in life. No matter what happens, want it or not, we must be wise in facing all the pressures that come our way for more meaningful survival. Stress is a problem and stress is also a source of motivation, therefore without stress, life is less radiant like a tree that does not flower. With stress also our minds become more mature. Despite our perseverance in the face of that pressure, we still need other human beings to face it more rationally. In this regard, society needs to be aware that the problem of emotional stress is something that should not be played and underestimated. Therefore, they need to be concerned with the people around them so that those who have this emotional stress problem are confident that they are loved.
Thank you.
