SHUVALAKSHIMEY A/P VEETHASALAM 278019 (IMPERSONATING PRIME MINISTER JACINDA ARDERN)
My warmest greetings to everyone,
I'm thrilled to be here today, to witness all these young people from various walks of life so passionate about building the future of our education system. The New Zealand Government is currently reviewing our education system to align its goal with our country’s vision in the upcoming 30 years. However, we cannot accomplish this goal alone. We need your assistance. We do not wish to impose our ideas on what might be the best for all. It was a mistake we did in the past.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Today, I stand before you to talk about some of my ideas regarding the future of education. We want the children, parents, educators and everyone to let us know how would you structure the education system if you were to be in power. Our goal is to unite people to share the same vision for the future of education system. We believe, this will harmonize our journey throughout the system from childhood education up until lifelong learning. Education should bring out the best in everyone. It should provide us the opportunity to learn and discover our full potential in various field. Only then it will lead an individual to live a fulfilling life. Studies shows that about 40% of currently existing jobs will not sustain in the upcoming years.
So, how can we prepare for the uncertain future? The only way to prepare is to start brushing up on our skills so we will be ready to face any obstacle the future might throw. Apart from good technological skills, we also need good socializing and innovative thinking skills related to the world today. We want to provide an education system that can deliver experiences to students and not just theories to learn from. This will prepare today’s students for the future. Fellow citizens,
I often say I want New Zealand to be the best place in the world for a child. In fact, all New Zealanders share the same aspiration. We want our education system to provide tools for every child to realize their capability. However, it's not about waiting 30 years for a change. It’s about utilizing our vision, to create a change now for a better future. As a government, we believe that New Zealand has a good early childhood education and curriculum module. This government also believes every child, regardless of their ability or disability or family background, deserves a proper education that prepares them for their future.
The focus on standardisation over the years created too much red tape, and oppressed creativity and innovation. It certainly did not help the youngsters to discover their passion. Therefore, we are changing the system to be more inclusive whereby the system can work for each and every child while learning in the modern era.
Education begins the very moment a child is born and we want every child to receive education that produces an all-rounder so that the child can be qualified to explore in any field of their interest in the future. We have to change the system so parents don’t choose between providing food or paying school hockey fees.
I believe the citizens now understand the importance of your voices and views to change the existing education system so that the education needs, that are not well served can be altered. We want to create successful students and individuals for the future, so, help us design the best education system in the world. Education is the foundation for a good nation. Thank you!
